Safety Statement
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Drug and Alcohol Policy and required testing policy per FTA, ADOT, Motor Vehicle Department. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing, Random Testing, and Reasonable Suspicion Testing. The incumbent is required to fully comply with all operational safety rules and regulations established by NAIPTA.
Departmental Objective
To comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations while safely operating a fixed route transit vehicle. To professionally represent NAIPTA while providing timely and courteous service to all customers within the region.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is mechanically sound and completes all documentation as required.
- Maintains a working knowledge of streets, bus stops, proper routing, and intersecting points within the designated routes.
- Maintains knowledge of and adherence with all NAIPTA policies, procedures and safety requirements.
- Provides safe, timely and courteous service to all NAIPTA passengers.
- Prepares accurate and legible completion of accident and incident reports at the end of scheduled shift.
- Accurately maintains and records passenger counts (manifest), farebox and records data, as required.
- Issues passenger information fliers, transfers and survey cards, as required.
- Responsible for maintenance of vehicle interiors and exteriors.

Knowledge of:
- State and Federal Transportation Regulations
- Correct English usage, spelling and vocabulary.
- Procedures for safe operation of buses and vans.
- Knowledge of scheduled routes.

Working Conditions, Exposure to Risks and Physical Dangers
This position requires physical effort such as walking, lifting, standing, and manual dexterity. May require assisting passengers in wheelchairs by physically lifting the wheelchairs from the curb to the vehicle. This position works onboard a moving vehicle and will require sitting for an extended length of time, with constant arm, hand and foot movement.
The incumbent may be exposed to violent confrontations from passengers, airborne pathogens, and various weather conditions.
Education Requirements:
A High-School Diploma or GED. OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
Similar Work Experience:
Minimum 6 Months similar work experience.
Licenses, Training and/or Certifications Required:
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Test.
- Valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License Class B with a passenger endorsement
- Clean 5-year MVR
- Pass a background check
